Dixie Flyer, Arriving Nashville from Chicago, 1954

Dixie Flyer #95 from Chicago via Danville, Terre Haute, Evansville pulled by an FP7A arriving at Union Station on a Saturday morning about 9:30am. Photo taken from Broad St. viaduct.

Nashville had 6 through tracks, and other stub-tracks.  There were three through tracks on each side.  Those to the far right, out of the picture generally handled northbound trains, while the Dixie Flyer is coming in on one of the Southbound tracks. Notice the office car sitting at the north end of what was the outside through track at the station.  Those cars made frequent trips on passenger trains, so the "owner" of the car, i.e. whoever it was assigned to, could inspect the line of road.  It may also have been just sitting there waiting for the next southbound, which would have been #99, the Pan American about 3pm.
