LOUISVILLE
AND NASHVILLE RAILROAD
MISCELLANEOUS
ODDS AND ENDS

Chicago
and Eastern Illinois Coach on NB Dixie Flyer
Tullahoma.
Fall 1964.
The
were acquired by the C&EI from the NKP, and then some were acquired by
the L&N later from the C&EI.
This
pix was taken in June, 1961, on the next to last Shriners Railway
Special. The equipment the L&N supplied for this trip soured
just about everyone, and although the equipment supplied the next year was
much better, all of the trips since have been by air.
Most of the tracks seen here are gone except for the track the train is
on, and one other on the other side of the train. About 1/2 mile
behind this scene, CSX now splits to the south and gets on NS to run
through town to East End, where CSX again takes to it's own tracks.
Chattanooga
pretty much forced this issue around 1972, in order to get the trains out
of the downtown streets. By then, there were no passenger trains,
and the historic depot had been torn down. Historic because parts of
it were in use during the Civil War.

Most were wood. This one was a combination of steel and wood.
Okay.
I'll admit that these are not L&N photos, but this passenger run
originated in L&N's backyard (Nashville)
