Alco RS-3 Switcher. No. 173
Corbin,
KY. March 13, 1956
Alco RS-3 switcher, of which the L&N
owned about 100. These were all sold off by the late 60s. Most
were painted all black prior to 1958.
Corbin had a much
larger shop structure (and area) than Radnor in Nashville, TN. RS-3s were
common in Corbin since they were used in profusion on the coal branches
off of the Cumberland Valley Division which joined the mainline at Corbin.
RS-3s were quite rare in Nashville, although the TC had a few.
