Photo Possibly taken in Kentucky

Thomas Easton Hendrix (1854-1931) is pictured in the center of the photo wearing the vest. By family history, T. E. (John's great-grandfather) worked for the L&N, lived a great portion of his life in Pensacola, Florida and died in Covington, Kentucky.

Special thanks to John Hendrix for e-mailing me this photograph and giving permission to post it on this website.

MISCELLANEOUS ODDS AND ENDS

Frank Story Collection. Used by Permission.

NC&St.L Caboose. Circa 1910.

Frank Story's grandfather, James Thomas Simpson, retired from the NC&St.L in 1946 and had nearly 50 years of service. He is second from the left with the brake club in his hand.  The ICC outlawed the side door style cabooses, like this one, in 1911. He lived in McEwen, TN and worked out of Nashville.  In those early days, he worked the road as a brakeman, moved to the wrecker crew, was foreman on a pile driver crew that built trestles, etc. and retired in 1946 as a car inspector at the Radnor Yards

Pile Driver. Circa 1910.

Frank Story's grandfather, James Thomas Simpson, retired from the NC&St.L in 1946 and had nearly 50 years of service. He's the jaunty looking gentleman standing in the middle, white shirt, leaned against the pole. In those early days, he worked the road as a brakeman, moved to the wrecker crew, was foreman on a pile driver crew that built trestles, etc. and retired in 1946 as a car inspector at the Radnor Yards.
